Acrylic On Canvas: Peaceful Winter, Late Winter Of 2002

I painted this one peaceful, casual, calm winter day at UConn, the kind of day where I either didn't have any homework, or wasn't doing it, where my priorities consisted of filling my thermos with instant hot chocolate, chocolate syryp and whipped cream from the dinning hall next door, and it was snowing heavily outside. Everyone in my dorm was excited about the snow. Of course, no scenes from UConn actually look like this exactly, but the day was still inspiring. This is a fantasy painting based on a real photograph I took-- although it doesn't look anything like the real photograph either. It truly is a fantasy, and has no direct connection to any real place, any real person, or any real event. Sometimes I like to think of it as a peaceful place that once existed for me in a past life-- because if I do think of any reality of it, I don't consider it's a place that exists in this present time. It definitely feels like the past. But aside from that, I have no real direct label for it. Instead it has the peacefulness of not having a basis in reality, but having a richness and implied meaning as if it did.

I'm impressed with how well this turned out... I didn't put much strain into this, it was very easy to do. I think that shows in it, and is part of its peacefulness...
